Befriending Scheme

Home visiting schemes

Our befriending service is designed to meet the needs of older people who may be lonely or socially isolated and in need of some company and support.
Our befriending service is free to those who use it and anyone can refer to the scheme. This includes self-referrals from older people who wish to use the service.
The Co-ordinator will visit the older person to meet them and assess their needs. The next step will involve introducing the older person to a volunteer who will then visit them regularly. Volunteers and the people who use the service decide the frequency, day and timing of visits between themselves.
All volunteer befrienders undergo an enhanced check with the Criminal Records Bureau and C.R.V east London and also require them to provide satisfactory references as part of the recruitment process.

We offer ongoing support and training to our volunteers.
Service users and volunteers enjoy the building of a new friendship and can feel secure and confident being involved with a recognised organisation.

Telephone befriending service

The telephone befriending service provides a phone call to older people in their own homes to have a chat at no cost to them.
We have a dedicated team of Chinese/Vietnamese volunteers who help us do this. We get people together occasionally to join in social activities and the service is well thought of by all of the 148 people who use it.
The telephone befriending service relieves social isolation with a friendly call and someone who can put you in touch with help if required.
